Summer vacations create the best of memories, but without proper home security, they could turn into a costly nightmare.  As the temperatures rise, so do the chances of burglaries. According to a study referenced in ADT’s resource section, burglaries were 11% more common in summer than in winter between 1993-2010.

At CMG Real Estate Group, we believe in not only helping you find the home of your dreams, but also helping you keep your home safe. Our top four home safety tips are sure to keep you and your home protected.

General Security Tips:

  1. Security System: Install a security system with cameras and alarms for full monitoring. A Ring Doorbell is a great example of a security system device which offers the option of two-way communication, video recording, and motion detection — all from your phone.

  2. Social Media Awareness: Before or during travel, be mindful of posting online about going on a trip to avoid attracting unwanted attention to your unoccupied home. Instead, post highlights from the trip after arriving home.

  3. Know Your Neighbors: Try to form solid relationships with your neighbors before going on a trip to keep a watchful eye on your property. Forming mutual trust with neighbors can provide an extra layer of security, knowing that someone is nearby to resond quickly if something suspicious happens.

  4. Mind Your Mail: Arrange for an alternate delivery or put a mail hold in place for packages scheduled to arrive during your vacation.
